Horse riding is really fun and sometimes you just want to jump on and not bother with tacking up. This article will teach you how to ride a horse using your halter and lead rope as a bridle and reins.

How to Ride Horses in Halters

Sometimes you just can’t be bothered to saddle up your horse or you might just have to move him quickly but as long as you have a halter and a lead rope then you have what you need start horse riding.
Halter your horse as normal.
Unclip the lead rope from the central ring under the horse’s jaw.
Move the lead rope to the ring on the left side of the halter.
Put the loose end of the rope over your horse’s neck.
Take the loose end of the lead rope and tie it into the loop on the right of the halter.
If you have a long lead rope then you will now have reins, if your lead rope is short then you should take care to keep the rope high up the horse’s neck so that you don’t pull too much.
Mount up and ride!
Remember there is no bit inside the horse’s mouth so you will not get such a strong response. If your horse is well trained they will respond to this like a normal bridle with no troubles.
Take care not to go too fast as you do not have as much control over the horse.
You will have to exaggerate your hand signals if our horse is only used to riding with a bitted bridle.
