Horses and Ponies: Magnetic Therapy Guide

Equine Magentic Therapy
Horses and Ponies: Magnetic Therapy Guide
Horse health is an important issue to all equestrian enthusiasts and nowadays there are a number of different treatments available for health issues. If you are considering horses for sale, it is worth learning about some of the therapies that are used. Magnotherapy is becoming increasingly popular as a choice of healthcare for horses and ponies, and this guide outlines details about the therapy for your information.

Equine magnetic therapy is normally administered in the form of horse equipment that incorporates magnets, such as rugs, boots and bridle headpieces.

The Ancient Chinese were the pioneers of this type of treatment and it has now been accepted that equine magnetic therapy does benefit horse health. It is believed that magnotherapy for horses and ponies can boost healing and generally keep a horse in good health.

This treatment improves circulation in a horse, which can cause a healing effect. The delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the blood is enhanced and toxins are removed as a result. Scientists have proven that blood flow is actually increased thanks to equine magnetic therapy.

For this reason, magnotherapy is beneficial to horses that have conditions where blood flow is an issue. These can include tendon and ligament injuries and arthritis.

Horse rugs that incorporate magnets are used by some of the top riders as they relax the muscles. However, it is important to note that these should not be left on horses and ponies when travelling, as they heat up body temperature.

Always check with your vet before administering this type of therapy, as there may be instances where it is not appropriate. If in doubt, consult your vet.
