Horse Rider Training
Horse Show - Horse Rider Fitness

When it comes to competing at a horse show, rider fitness is just as important as horse fitness. The horse riding show will be much easier for you and the horse if you have engaged in some rider training beforehand to make sure you are in good physical condition. To learn more about rider fitness for a horse show, read on.

Rider Fitness for a Horse Riding Show

•    The first aspect of rider fitness you should be aware of is basic physical fitness. Start a rider training fitness schedule and stick to it, consider keeping a good level of rider fitness throughout the year and try to improve it somewhat in the run up to a horse show.

•    Your horse rider fitness schedule should include basic cardio such as running or swimming as well as weight training for long term rider fitness. Good physical fitness and strength will make the process of competing in a horse show much easier and reduce the risk of torn or strained muscles.

•    Having a fit and healthy rider is also much better for the horse too as during the horse riding show, the horse will not have to carry a rider who is slouching and thumping in the saddle. Balance and suppleness are important when it comes to rider fitness.

•    Many people favour one side of their body and unknowingly lean to one side, identifying and rectifying this will mean that the pressure in the stirrups is equal. Many problems with horses that are put down to ill fitting saddles can actually be the result of the rider lacking rider fitness and not holding themselves up correctly.

•    Pilates is recommended by many riders as a very effective rider training to achieve and maintain good alignment and balance. Pilates is excellent for rider fitness and develops good core muscle strength. Yoga is also recommended for improving flexibility.

•    Activities such as skipping, running, cycling and swimming are excellent at maintaining good levels of rider fitness. Step up these rider fitness exercises before a horse show to improve your physical condition. Engaging in regular rider fitness also helps for any injuries to heal quicker.
