no - i like to see cobs hogged, :)

but - they could also have been hogged due to sweet itch, lice or mites so be careful....:)

leave at the end of the day with a nice goodbye

I once rode a super cob with a hogged mane and although he was wonderful, I've never felt so worried! I just didn't like not having the option of being able to grab the mane. I also like to hold a section of the mane with the reins when I mount, it just makes me feel safer. When I was looking for a horse I didn't even read the advert if the horse was hogged because of this. I know that you can grow the mane back out but it takes a fair while and I didn't want to be worried with a new horse while the mane was growing. Sounds a bit pathetic but that's how it is!

I don't mind a hogged mane but i HATE seeing cobs which have ahd the top of their tail clipped instead of pulled, that looks flippin terrible :w00t:

No, providing it wasn't becuase of sweet itch.

I do prefer them with long manes.

I agree, they do look smart and I'd tell people to never be put off a horse by something that is a tempory, cosmetic (not permanent) issue but I still don't want to ride a hogged horse again! :P

I wouldn't say you should be put off by it, provided it doesnt bother you.

Personally, I absolutely love manes and tails on horses and dont even pull them, I feel they are there for the horses benefit and feel a bit sorry for the hogged ones when the flies start to appear, so would never ever do it meself.  But thats my personal opinion and it may well be different to yours )

If you like the horse, then it shouldnt stop you from buying it if its the only thing bothering you, you can always grow it back.

Its only cosmetic (except special circumstances) - I quite like it on a cob - Imagine an Arab ? :)

no-Roman was hogged when we bought him but I've since grown it out-if you're put off by the look of it-the pics of Roman with his mane is about 4 years growth on it-and it has been tidied up at the ends as well.  I do think the show cobs look lovely and smart hogged (my mate has one-Roman's best friend) but with Roman being 1/2 shire (HUGE feet!)-and having wavy feathers instead of straight ones he looks so much better hairy.

My boy was totally hogged and clipped out so close to the skin he was almost pink and brown instead of skewbald! We assumed a bad skin was why he was totally shaved but several months later and a good bug rug and we havent seen it yet, he is now sporting a funky mohican and and lovely set of feathers!

more hairy the better!!:)

doesn't bother me either way, at the end of the day it means nothing, and i think it would be very silly to turn a horse down because you didn't like its hair!
