As you know am getting NF at end of month and wondering which saddle to get.  Have been looking on e-bay this morning and have found a Gallop saddle, leather, sizes wide and ex wide, 14" - 18" for £64.99 plus 10.99 pp!! this cant be right surely - does anyone have one, seen one, or know anything about them.  I have been looking a synthetics for 250.00, and I know the leather wont be that great - but £65? I though leathers were 500 upwards!!

mmmm a fitting from a proper saddlery is always a good option...only ever bought a saddle once off ebay and it didn't fit so had to sell it again...just hassle all the time...

hi, i had loads of saddle fitting horrors when i first got my mare and once actually resorted to buying a cheapo one off ebay, i wouldnt recommend it. Firstly the quality is often awful, stitching etc not good and prob not very strong, they are usually made in asia or somewhere else where labour is unskilled and very cheap. The only time i would consider a cheap saddle as appropriate would be in the early staged of backing a youngster before actually starting riding.

Thorowgood do a very good range of synthetic saddles that are now quite cheap on ebay, the g4 saddle is an older model that the new one ( think its g6) and so sells very cheaply. You get a leather look saddle that is well made for a fraction of the cost of a trad leather one. at least you know the quality is good.

Anyway, enough waffling,

good luck

:hehe:

I think ebay is a good thing for rugs, jodphurs, coats....etc etc

but there are 3 things that should always be fitted....

A hat

A Body protector

A saddle

But that's just my oppinion!

personally i think ebay is getting rather dear...people want a bargin and thats what sort of site it used to be but not anymore...my rugs i get from a friend who works at horseware ireland and get 50% off or melton market 2 for 70 quid...i find the more i use the same woman there the more discount she gives you......

i do have in my tack room from my friends daughters 3 pairs of toggi riding boots, long size 1 and 2 size 13's, a body protector and a skull cap riding hat if anyone wants a bargin... the hat and body protector have hardly been worn mind you the boots are immaculate as well...

im with you all here, esp soverieign, ebay is getting expensive.

i bought secondhand synthetic as i knew exactly what i wanted but it was only £50 cheaper than an other internet company. know someone who bought leather - it was imported, very very bad quality, stictching came away after half a dozne uses, very uncomfy for horse and rider - no comeback with ebay company as bad feedback is a pain in the neck to get around and complain. if going leather invest in having fitted as not very forgiving like a synthetic. speak to the old owner and get an idea of what use to have - that has been the best thing i have done for my girl as got perfect fit now.

Very special 17yr old TB who is calm, gentle, not moody, lives out all year and loves to work. she is a very special person. Recently joined by adopted brother, 6 year old Lusitano who has a lot to give and a heart of gold.

i bought my horse trailer off ebay, got a bargin there and i have sold my 2 cars on there.. but you see most of the stuff for equestrian are tack shops butting in...mudrucker boots are like 30 quid off there with 6 odd quid delivery...in robinsons they are 34 quid with 4 quid delivery....2 quid difference from ebay so not a fortune in saving.......
