Which jacket?

Dressage doldrums, horse not responsive? Ask advice here
Which jacket?

Postby Chertz on Tue Nov 27, 2007 10:12 pm

I am hoping to show my new young horse next spring/summer (2008) and will be starting proper schooling and lessons in the New Year.  I am hoping to do a little dressage as well - just walk and trot to start with.

What I want to know is - can I wear my hacking jacket that I will be showing in?  Or does it have to be a black jacket.  I don't have a black jacket and would rather not have to buy one just for the little tests I will be doing.  Also, I probably won't be able to afford to have any points knocked off for the wrong dress!

Thank you.

Kirstie

Your hacking jacket will be perfectly acceptable at that level - so long as your smart and tidy.  Don't forget to wear gloves - you can be eliminated for not doing so!!:w00t:

Yer, I think your hacking jacket will be suffice. :D

random but:

Once, I wore a tweed hacking jacket in dressage and had a comment on my test saying I must not wear tweed....for dressage?

I have always worn my hacking jacket for dressage, right up to elementary and never had a comment about it, so you will be fine for for walk and trot tests.

Would need to be black or navy if you affiliated.

Is it different for eventing? Becuase someone at one of the stalls at Hicksted told me that in affilated eventing it says tweed must be worn for dressage. I'd never heard that before?!

According to the British Dressage rule book: "From Prelim to Advanced Medium - Uniform or conservatively coloured/tweed jackets with correctly tied stock, white American Collar or shirt and tie"

According to the British Eventing rule book: "Uniform or Hunting dress".

The same as BD,  either way tweed is absolutely fine no matter what anyone else may tell you.  Hunting dress would include tweed, black or navy (preferably navy for ladies), but it seems to me that more people wear tweed when eventing at lower levels.

Thanks for that, that's really interesting to know.

Actually it's amazing how many people have said to me - You must get a blue or black jacket for dressage you know, but I've continued to wear tweed. I'm planning to get a new jacket when I go to Olympia this year and I've seen a nice blue tweed one that I like, I'm going to get it even if people say I can't wear it!

People do seem to think that you have to wear black or navy, and bright white breeches, and an enormous puffy stock with some form of diamante pin, and a beagler - or worse top-hat!!

I wear tweed - just bought a new one, even though I have a lovely navy jacket and a black one.  I also wear a 'proper' hat even though I do possess a beagler!

Hope you get the tweed you want, don't forget to co-ordinate with your shirt and tie.....:w00t:

Absolutely :D blue tie, blue hair scrunchie, navy blue hat and the blue jacket...going to look spesh! hahaha, probably look silly, but oh well.

I am not a huge fan of stocks, they always look messy and bunched up...and if your wearing one in the summer you get soooo hot. I prefer shirt and tie.

Thank you very much.  I have a greeny coloured tweed jacket with a green velvet collar.  I also wear a white shirt with my green Welsh Pony & Cob Society tie.  I think it looks smart.  I also only have a skull cap.  but I put a smart black velveteen cover on it for shows.  I don't own a proper 'riding hat'.  I have such a big head that I look like I have a mushroom head.

Yes, I got it from their site (as above).  I also have the lapel badge (which I also put on my show jacket) and the tax disc holder, the car sticker, the calender, etc.  It is quite a good site as they give details of the big shows and sales if you want to go along.
