Maddison County (aka Maddie, Spotty Mare). 15.2hh Appaloosa mare

Postby lazydaisy on Wed Aug 06, 2008 2:12 pm

I had an Appaloosa mare on loan a few years back (she was 12 in about 1999/2000), 15.2hh called Maddison County registered with the Appaloosa Society (Spotty Mare, or Maddie for short!!), and she was lovely. When she came to live with us, she had rain scald under her rug, and was quite thin, as you can see from the photo, but with correct feeding, worming, grooming and gentle work she started to come right. It took a long time, and I was really worried someone would report her as a cruelty case. I could have bought her, but couldn't afford the £1200 asking price, which even then was cheap. She could be a bit quirky at times, a very strange colour (I'm not into what the various colours are called) , a huge thick shiny black mane and tail, didn't like worming syringes or being tied up, went english or western, and marish in the field. But she was lovely, to hack, excellent in traffic and really well-schooled, and I often wonder what happened to her. Does any of this jog anyone's memory, or the photos ring any bells. She would have been sold/bought from Corely Moor after I had her.

I came into this world with nothing, and I've still got most of it left.....

Help, my pics are scaring me. They're resized in Photobucket, but are still original size on here, and I can't take them off, or edit my post.....gggrrrrrrrrr

She really changed whilst you had her, LD. She looks very quiet with everyone riding her :)

Have you been in touch with her breed society to see who's name she's registered in? Might be worth a shot if you haven't

Just this minute sent an email off to the British Appaloosa Society, but these breed societies can be a bit sniffy about doshing out info, stating data protection act as their reason. But its sure worth a try.

I did just find out tho', she was classed as a ....

Marble (or Roan)
Base colour is usually red or blue roan. At times described as bay, brown or balck roan.
Marbles usually have 'varnish' marks (darker patches.)

col_7.gifHow cool is that....I must have a "thing" for roany ponies!

Yes she changed a huge amount in the 6 months I had her, but due to her poor condition to start with, I couldn't ride her much to start with. The saddles she came with both rested on her withers. I was just starting to do something with her, and we were well into Maytime, and our circs changed, and I had to let her go back. I couldn't afford to buy her, and she was sold on shortly after she went home, and I was gutted.
