good point FP. maybe (as horrible as it sounds) if there are a few horses that being pts the vets could reduce the cost even more. such as the racing stables and so on.

I really think it would help anything is better than going for meat. At least they would be pts in their homes and happy.

yeah and they wouldn't be stressed out or have to deal with the sight, smell and taste of death that way. like you said, anything would be better than going for meat.

the whole practise is terrible , the horses should be taken to slaughter house the day of killing , that is something the slaughter house could change !! they obviously dont seem bothered. i do agree that it is better to pts , rather than live a life of uncertainty . they just shouldnt have to stay in slaughter premises for a whole day let alone a week . i understand that horse meat ends up in pet food and on the continent but where does the leather go , are shoes , jackets etc , even maybe our saddles , could they potentially be horse hide ???? that fact disturbs me . the type of leather and where it comes from is never labeled on any item of leather ive bought . not like buying food , where country of origin is labeled . gees goes deeper than you think :ermm:

Mofta...... what ARE you doing reading the Daily Mail! :P

Seriously though, that is really really upsetting. If I had more land and more experience I would have the lot of em!

I'm confused.
You are all against this and annoyed at it, yet everyone who breeds to sell the foal are fuling this trade.
Hate me all you want but the foal my mare is having in a few years time will be kept and trained by me.
I know I can afford it.
Point is.
People just need to stop breeding.
Like not completely but after this years foals are born, just quit breeding crappy mares in the hopes of getting something nice.

Welsh ponies are getting cheaper and cheaper.
Because people think there cute but don't get off their **** and train them to be sold to decent homes.

The British breeding system sucks.
And it annoys me.
