Stallions

What are people's general opinions on stallions?
I feel like there is a strong sterotype that does not apply to all horses (as with every stereotype). I have an arab stallion which I will be soon bebringing over to the uk from abroad but I am worried about poeple's reactions. He has never been bred and does not realise his full potential as it were. He is a gentleman and never bites, kicks, runs off, or even act like a 'stallion'. I know and my close friends will know but I am afraid that other people will just hear the word stallion and run for the hills before giving me the chance to explain.
What do other people think? Does anyone have any experience in this sort of thing?
Thanks

A stallion has to be brought up correctly and well managed an you can have an absolute perfect gentleman on your hands. He wont neccessarily stay that way and may become more fisky and there balls can rule there head occassionally.

But stallions to work with are fab, as well as having the presence for the show ring.

You will struggle to livery him anywhere and you will have to check before hand with shows if he is allowed but providing he is under control you'll be fine. Make sure he is well socialised though and allways has company. if you keep him alone, he will get very anxious when he does meet other horses.

Good luck! dont worry what people think, be proud that you can prove them wrong!

Thanks. I have found out about the difficulty of livery. Luckily some reletives of mine will let me keep him on their land. He is already very socialised as he is kept on a livery yard full of other mares, stallions and geldings with no problem so all should be fine. My reletives already have 4 other horses so he shouldn't get too excited at shows.
Thanks for your help.

Sounds like lots of males (no disrespect to the males on here who I am sure are not at all like that ;) )!

Glad you've got somewhere to keep him. The fun we had trying to find somewhere for my daughter's 9 month old colt was amazing - they hear "colt" and the answer is "no" straightaway (but then mine would be too if I'm honest as I have 2 very tarty mares!!! ) I'm not sure Apache even knows he's a horse yet, let alone a colt! He is now out with two other colts and the difference is marked. They are the same age as him but their play is far more coltish. He's still such a baby! :)

Born again,
If they didn't (rule our heads) do you really think we males would enter into meaningful relationships? Most of us are quite good cooks and can housekeep if necessary.

^^^LMAO!

I will admit my OH (brilliantly trained by yours truly over the years) is a very good cook and could very much manage to look after himself... I'd probably struggle but can put together a mean Ikea cabinet. Sadly can't rely on batting my eyelids these days as I'd probably dislocate them!!

bornagain,

We only let you think we are trained. Just you leave the stable door or paddock gate open once too often and 'look out'.

These young fillies are getting more attractive by the day and wearing Katie Price bling! (YUCK!!)

However, I can't remember what my owner took me to the vet for some time ago......I was asleep at the time :? :?: . Woke up feeling more than a little sore.....in more ways than one.
Any ideas?? Could it explain my confusion and my liking for songs by David Grey, Will Young and Cold Play?
