The Trakehner Horse was developed in 18th century Poland where its origins can be traced Schwieken horse. In the early 1800s blood from the English Thoroughbred and the Arabian horse was introduced to the Trakehner to improve the breeds endurance. Following a decrease in numbers during World War 2, Trakehner horses were re-established in West Germany, where they have gained popularity and numbers have increase.
The Trakehner horse is a good competition horse wining Olympic medals in events such as show jumping, dressage and driving. They also make a good horse for general riding.
