The Tersk horse, or Tersky as it is sometime known, was developed in Russia between 1921 and 1950 to replace the Strelets Arabs which had almost died out during the civil war. The Tersk was bred from Arab, Don, Strelets and Kabardin horses.
The Tersk horse is similar in appearance to the Arab horse. It has a medium head with straight profile and large eyes and ears, muscular hindquarters, hard legs and strong hooves. The Tersk horse is most commonly grey but occasionally found in bay and chestnut.
Tersk horses have great stamina which makes them great horses for long distance racing and endurance events. They are also successful in eventing and dressage and sow jumping. Tersk have also been used in the circus and the army.
