Lipizzan horses are a fairly rare breed. They originate from village Lipica( meaning small linden), after which they are named. This was part of Austro-Hungarian Empire, now Republic of Slovenia. The breed was created through crossing of Neapolitan, Danish, Spanish and later Arab horses with primarily domestic (Karst horse) mares, but also mares of spanish origin. The Stud farm was bought 1580 and started to exist.
Originally used for miltary purposes in the 17th and 18th century, however now more commonly used as dressage and display horses due to their ability to be highly trained and disciplines. A popular member of the famous Spanish Riding School.
