Dating back to the Middle Ages, Haflingers are the native ponies of the Alpine farms of Austria. Villagers needed surefooted animals for their daily transportation and packing in the uneven mountain terrain. The horse was crossed with Arab horses to produce the Haflinger as we know it today.
The Haflinger horse has an expressive, lean head with large, lively dark kind eyes, Strong sloping shoulders and good withers and a Broad, deep chest. Haflinger are mostly chestnut with a flaxen blonde mane and tail.
Haflingers are commonly used for trailing and pleasure riding. They are also Often used to do Vaulting (gymnastics on horses) because of their willingness and great temperament. Haflingers are also good jumpers.
