The Anglo- Arab Horse was first produced by crossing the Arabian horse with the English Thoroughbred. The Anglo Arab horse breed is popular in Europe and they are selectively bred in France and the Janow stud in Poland.
The Anglo Arab is also used for breeding other varieties of horses such as the Selle Francais breed.
The appearance of the Anglo- Arab horse tends far towards the thoroughbred than towards the Arabian horse, with a straight rather than concave head profile, a longer neck more prominent withers, and very oblique, powerful shoulders. They are commonly coloured chestnut, bay or brown.
Anglo-Arabs are almost exclusively known as a sport horses, winning many Olympic medals in a number of disciplines. They are good racehorses, jumping well and endure longer distances under a heavier rider. They are excellent riding horses and particularly recommended for polo.
