Pen yr heol las is a mixed livestock farm set in an elevated position on the Western edge of the Rhymney Valley, enjoying southerly views over Caerphilly to the Severn Estuary and the north Somerset coast. The farm is situated 2˝ miles from the centre of Caerphilly and 4 miles east of the A470 at Cwm Taf. It is 12 miles from the centre of Cardiff via either the A470 or direct via the A469. Pen yr heol las occupies a scenic position with countryside views to the east and west. It adjoins forestry land to the north-east and open moorland to Mynydd Eglwysilan. A particular feature of the farm is the easily managed hill grazing rights on this moor, which intersects the land, and add to the livestock carrying capacity of the farm and to its forage hectarage for IACS purposes. The farm also has a bio-diverse woodland, Coed y brain, to the Eastern boundary, which incorporates a former Pennant sandstone quarry with an estimated extracted volume of one million cubic metres, and which is a geological Site of Special Scientific Interest.
