Localiser (Stewie) (IRE)
2006, 16.2hh bay gelding
Sire: Iron Mask (USA)
Dam: Becada (GER)
Due to new work commitments I lack the time this lovely horse deserves and is missing out on being taken to his full potential.
Stewie has excellent manners both in the stable and field, to catch (comes to call or even just the sight of you!), load, shoe, vet. He is up to date with all jabs and teeth.
Unlike your typical thoroughbred, Stewie has been going barefoot through winter and only has front shoes in summer - holding his shoes until they need replacing and not falling off.
I’ve competed up to county level with Stewie and he’s consistently bringing back placings - excelling in cross country.
He has jumped up to 1m20 in a puissance (winning us 1st place) with room to go higher,
He excels in cross country and has competed both alone and in pairs, with consistently being placed - he absolutely loves it! We have jumped round a BE100 course.
We've qualified for trailblazers in dressage (I personally don’t have much passion for dressage so haven’t tested him too far in this area)
and he is registered and eligible for ROR (only raced 3 times – came 3rd twice and stopped racing at 3). I have competed Stewie once in a ROR class and came 2nd, with judges’ comments including him being well rounded and having a fluid balanced movement - apparently only being knocked from 1st place for our turnout (sorry Stewie – my fault!)
Stewie will hack out alone or in company and will hold back even when other horses run off ahead. He is snaffle mouthed out riding and in the arena unless jumping in which I then use a happy-mouth dutch gag on a medium level as he likes to put his head high when approaching a jump - he also wears a martingale only when jumping. He is good in traffic but can very occasionally look at things when out riding (usually just a flapping back or fly tipping which can’t be blamed) but hasn’t been sharp and usually gives good prior warning that he has seen something if he is going to look at something and will then go ahead with your reassurance. Although he is well behaved I would not consider Stewie to be a first ride – however he has taught my completely novice partner to ride, I believe he would best be suited to a competitive home or mother/daughter share - as long as it's a 5* home that will give him the love and attention he deserves!
