Surrey Puppy farmer – John Lowe is caught out my Inside out presenter Joe Crowley - 2 Oct 2008

John Lowe, of Keepers Cottage Stud near Farnham is well known to Inside Out, with a long history of selling sick puppies.

Four years ago the ‘Inside out’ showed how he was breeding scores of dogs at his premises and selling puppies in poor condition to unsuspecting members of the public. Many puppies once they were bought fell ill within days of leaving the kennels and some died.

After ‘Inside Outs’ programme in 2004 John Lowe’s had his licence to breed puppies taken away by the local council.

In 2005 John Lowe appeared before Guildford Magistrates and pleaded guilty to a number of offences including breeding dogs without a licence. He was disqualified from keeping a breeding establishment for two years.

A couple from Fareham in Hampshire, bought a 12-week-old beagle puppy from John Lowe over the August bank holiday in 2008. The puppy name ‘Lily’ within days became seriously ill. Tests showed Lily had the Parvo Virus and was dead within days. The family were devastates and paid out most of the £900 vet fees.

The couple are disgusted as John Lowe is not suppose to be selling puppies and he has put the family and the puppy through hell.

Two other couples appeared on the programme both lost puppies within days of taking home to the Parvo Virus.

The RSPCA recommends how people should go about buying a puppy: 1. Always see the puppy with its mother in the place where the puppy was bred. 2. Find out as much as you can about the puppy’s background. 3. Always ask to see a vaccination card - puppies should receive their first vaccinations before they leave their mother.
