| Severson retires top event horse - 15 Nov 2007 |
|
The American event rider Kim Severson has made the decision to retire her top eventer, Winsome Adante.
The 14-year-old horse won individual silver and team bronze Olympic medals in Athens in 2004, as well as team gold at the 2002 World Equestrian Games and is the only horse to win Lexington three times.
Bred in Staffordshire by Chris and Janet Gooch, Winsome Adante is owned by Linda Wachtmeister, who commented on his retirement: "It was a hard decision but it was also an easy decision. He had been in a stall for a long time because of a previous injury and he wouldn't have been ready for the Olympics.
"He needed to go out in the field and live the rest of his life. We had always hoped he would go to the Olympics again but I'm so proud of what he has accomplished.
"I never dreamed that my family would get to go to the Olympics because of him."
