The Akhal Teke was originally used by nomadic tribes as a war horse because of its great stamina and courage. Later the breed was also used by the Russian Military. The Akhal Teke has a small head with large eyes and long, narrow, highly set ears. It has a long thin neck set high on a slanting shoulder, prominent withers, a long body, and a silky mane and tail. The coat of the Akhal Teke is most commonly bay, black, chestnut, grey or black and has a distinctive metallic sheen to it.
