My beautiful 12.2hh liver chestnut mare is now 16yo and I cannot ride as I have drastically outgrown her. She has been out of work completely for about 3 and a half years, only due to this.
Poppy is quick and can be a little naughty when fresh when in her field or when in a new environment. She likes to test boundaries.
She's done all from against the clock, rallies, hunting, events etc. But sadly, she has had some behavioural issues (not actually when being ridden, but to tack up and after or before she is ridden, so we have retired her.)
For the above reasons, I would suggest she could be put on loan as a companion. She has helped to wean foals and travel with elderly mares. She is kind natured and great with other horses and all other animals.
She has always been good with the farrier, vet and in the yard, however she can pull sometimes when being led and can be quite fidgety.
One thing I also must stress is that she is naughty to catch but is usually good with a feed bucket or if shes wearing a head-collar. She will usually follow me around the field unless I'm carrying a head-collar, so she usually just wears it all year around.
